As a photographer, I always try new things. Sometimes I get an idea in my head then figure out the pieces of the puzzle, lighting, details, staging, etc. I've had this idea for a few weeks but then found my 'models'. I really like the design of the Coca Cola Coffee can, the colors and design... and it tastes good too. 7 Brew has become very popular over the past three years, I really like the owner's foundation story, plus their staff is always super friendly & helpful.
After roasting some green coffee beans I had (that's another story), I figured out how to have the fog come from under the base. It had to be something that would allow the fog to come through but hold the coffee beans. Without getting too far in to technical, I taped two flash reflectors together with the top one having a grid that the beans and product would rest on.
The goal in these types of self projects is to challenge myself. The only way any one gets better is to keep pushing your limits, especially as a creative. Many times I end up learning a new trick that I can use later by critiquing myself. I have never liked getting "comfortable", like they say, "if you're not moving forward, you're moving backwards". Challenging myself on the creative and technical will benefit my clients in the long run.
