This architecture photography project had some surprises. I've said it before, I get to go places and see things that most do not. I've never seen Northside or Southside High Schools, until recently when HPM contacted me. The project manager, Scott, guided me through the areas needing photography, helping with lights and access (it was a Saturday and alarms were on). Even better, he gave me a lot of details about the areas, mostly about the Arenas. YES, Arenas, NOT gyms, if you were to see them in person, you'd agree. Keep in mind North and Southside Arenas are basically identical, complete with seating for 2350, guest lounges, scoreboards that are the only 2 like it in the country, advanced sound system that can also monitor crowd noise and the list goes on.
Others involved in this project include Baldwin & Shell Construction and MAHG Architects.
There were many other much needed additions, specifically the cafeteria for both schools. They were both vastly undersized for the amount of students but now have improvements to accommodate the size and also useful for a variety of purposes. The cafeteria was greatly enlarged, I was told that many students in the past had to eat in the hallway or elsewhere because there just wasn't enough space. The school enrollment has grown so much, renovations to accommodate were needed and necessary.
